SpaceX's original Starship launch site at Starbase is still being upgraded, and recent footage shows the transformation accelerating.
During the latest flyover, Jordan captured deep excavations, towering crane work, and a steady stream of construction activity at the original Starship launchpad.
The newly dug flame deflector trench helps to withstand the heat and shock loads generated by 33 Raptor 3 engines. And it surely is a massive upgrade from the original "launch stool" that turned out to not be the best launch structure. The shift to a more traditional design with a huge flame trench was first seen at Starbase Pad 2. By now it is becoming the de-facto standard that can also be seen at SpaceX's Florida Starship launchpads that are being built as we speak.
The Pad 1 rebuild is coming along nicely. Crews have been laying the groundwork for that trench by driving steel sheet piles into the soil to prevent groundwater intrusion and reinforce the excavation walls. Soon, prefabricated steel wall sections for the trench itself will arrive on site, set to be filled with concrete once installed.
Higher up, the launch tower itself is getting attention too. A reinforced roof structure has been installed using the same massive crane that built much of Starbase's skyline. 
The OG launch site remodeling will still take months, but it is resembling Pad 2 more with every day that passes.
